Releasing the Responsibility

So its the end of the year, and the pressure for students to reach expectations is increased.  With the end of the year coming, students can feel it and are ready for summer!  So during our latest training a portion of it focused on 'releasing the responsibility'.  Some teachers are releasing passing out papers, or getting ready for centers.  One of the responsibilities I have released is quieting down students before math centers.  Now, your probably thinking...well that sounds ridiculous..your room must be as loud as the cafeteria.  But in fact it isn't.  I found one student who enjoys leading others, he likes to be in control.  I have allowed him to use the management strategy "if you can hear my voice, touch your nose" etc.  He is fantastic at it, this allows me to get ready for math centers!  I love it!

I have also created 11 jobs for my classroom.  Each student has a job/responsibility at the end of the day.  The kids enjoy the responsibility and are very serious about completing their end of the day job.  If you want to take a look at the posters I created, they are called 11 *nEw* Classroom Jobs.

Are you releasing any responsibility this quarter?  If so, what?

  1. We LOVE having Joey say "shoe sheriff"...Fred makes him say it at least twice a day. (Of course, then Joey tells him he can't be shoe sheriff because he can't tie his shoes! :)
